Precautions for use of Battery Unit

Applicable Models
Models equipped with Battery Unit in the PL3000 series or PS-3650A series

Battery Unit, an option for the PL3000 and PS-3650A series, is created to prevent abnormal termination of OS by switching to a battery power supply as an auxiliary power source in the case of a failure occurred in the AC power supply or when the power is unexpectedly cut off.
There are a couple of precautions for your safety. Please refer to the following Precaution 1 to 3.

Precaution 1

The number of charges on a Battery Unit is limited.
For example, if the usual operation is, the AC power supply is cut off at system shutdown in the PS-3650A series and a Battery Unit is intentionally operated, and then the OS is shut down, the battery comes to the end of its life after 200 times of this operation, in a simple calculation based on the limited number of charges.
Also, if a Battery Unit is operated several times on a same day, the amount that can be charged may be lowered and it could be a cause for abnormal operations.
For the reasons above, please use a Battery Unit only in the case of a failure occurred in the AC power supply or when the power is unexpectedly cut off.

Precaution 2
In the case of a failure occurring in the power supply, the power starts being supplied from the battery. Then, the OS shuts down after a certain period of time (in the default setting, the shutdown starts after one minute). Even if the power supply is recovered from the failure during the shutdown process, the shutdown continues, but the OS does not reboot.
This is because the state becomes soft-off (S5) after the shutdown, and the power supply is recovered before the shutdown gets completed.

Precaution 3
There is a difference in the operation between the PL3000 and PS-3650A series in the case that a unit of the applicable models is switched off while it is in operation with a normal power supply.
In the PS-3650A series, as the unit identifies the power-off by being switched off from by power outage, the battery does not start operating.
On the other hand, in the PL3000 series, the unit does not distinguish power-off by being switched off from by power outage. Therefore, it identifies the power-off as that due to a failure occurred in the AC power supply, and the battery starts operating.
