 FAQs for beginning
 GP's screen becomes dark.
The following describes the conceivable factors that cause a GP unit’s screen to get dark according to each status of LED.

LED Status Conceivable factors
LED OFF
  1. Measure input voltage to the product with a tester and make sure that it is within the specified value range.

Specified Value Range     AC unit: AC85V to 265V
    DC unit: DC19.2V to 28.8V

If the voltage is out of the specified value range, something may be wrong with external power supply. Check it.

  1. If the voltage is within the specified value range, the GP unit’s internal parts may be broken. Contact us for repair.
LED RED ON
  1. After measuring the input voltage to the product, if the voltage is within the specified value range, something may be wrong with the inside of the GP unit. Contact us for repair.
LED ORANGE ON
  1. The backlight burn-out detecting function of the GP unit performs, which may cause LED ON in orange as an alert display. Replace the backlight.

  1. If the symptom never improves even after the backlight is replaced, the GP unit’s internal parts may be broken. Contact us for repair.
LED GREEN ON
  1. Due to an error in a user’s screen data, the screen may not be displayed. Check if there’s an error in the screen data written in the GP unit.

  1. If there’s no error in the screen data, the following setting states may have a problem. Check them.
    * See "Check the setting states of the GP unit"

  1. If nothing is wrong with the setting states below, the GP unit’s internal parts may be broken. Contact us for repair.

Factor1 : The back light OFF bit in the system data area is ON.
In the GP's system data area, there is the bit to turn off the GP's back light.
(Bit 00 of +14 when connecting the PLC, In case of Memory Link Bit 00 of Address 11)
+14 Control 0 Backlight OFF
1 Buzzer ON
2 Starts printing
3 Reserved
4 Buzzer 0: Enabled 1: Disabled
5 AUX Output 0: Enabled 1: Disabled
6 Reserved
7 PLC monopoly 0: Disabled 1: Enabled
8 VGA Display 0: Disabled 1: Enabled
9, 10 Reserved
11 Hard copy output 0: Enabled 1: Disabled
12 to 15 Reserved
If you use the bit for switches or turn it on with the ladder on the PLC side, the GP's back light will be off. Therefore the display becomes dark.
However, as the LCD is working, the touch input is accepted if you touch the screen.
For the models without a backlight (GP477R and GP470), this feature is not effective.

Recovery Method
Pull out the communication cable with the PLC and turn ON/OFF the GP's power. Then the values in the system data area will be reset and the backlight will light. When the communication cable with the PLC cannot be pulled out, turn OFF from the PLC side the backlight OFF bit of the system data area (Bit 01 of +14 when connecting the PLC, In case of Memory Link. Bit 01 of Address 11).

Factor2 : The values are stored in the screen display area in the GP's system data area.
In the GP's system data area, there is the address to turn OFF the GP's screen display.
When 0 is entered in the address, the screen display disappears and when FFFF (Hex) is entered, the screen disappears.
(Address +9 when connecting the PLC, Address 12 at the time of Memory Link)
In this case, the LCD and the backlight are OFF.
+9 Screen Display ON/OFF FFFFh: Screen clears almost immediately. 0h: Screen turns ON. All other bits are reserved.
Also, when the values except 0, FFFF are entered, the screen display automatically turn OFF after a certain time passes.

Recovery Method
Make +9 of the system data area 0.

Factor3 : Trying to open a non-existing screen
Actually when displaying the base screen that has not been transferred to GP, the PLC's series name and version are displayed at lower left as shown below.

Recovery Method
Change the settings of the GP's initial screen number, transfer them to the GP, and set an existing screen.

- Settings with OFFLINE

- Settings with GP-PRO/PBIII C-Package

Factor4 : The brightness and contrast are low.
The brightness and contrast can be adjusted in the GP. Adjust the brightness and contrast.
