7.8.1 Procedure - Using Device/PLC Tags

Import Procedures

You can import tags using [Individual Device Settings]. The following procedure uses Siemens AG's SIMATIC S7 MPI direct connection driver as an example.

  1. In the [Device-Specific Settings] (accessible from [Project] menu, [System Settings], [Device/PLC]), click the button for the device/PLC for which you want to use a tag.

  2. Configure settings for a device/PLC.

  3. Click [New].

  4. Click [Import].

  5. Click [Browse] and select the project file (*.S7P) for the device/PLC.

    • If the project file contains multiple programs, a dialog box for program selection appears.
      Select the program you want to import and click [OK].

  6. A list of defined tags appears. Select the tags you want to import. You can select multiple tags. When done, click [OK] to import the tags.

    • You cannot use the following symbols in tag names: If a tag name contains any of these symbols, it will be converted to an underscore ( _ ).
      . , [] # [space]

  7. Review the tags you have imported and click [OK].

Setup Procedure

Specify a tag for an address. The following procedures shows how to setup a tag for [Monitor Word Address] on the display unit while Numeric Display is used.

  1. Open the [Data Display] dialog box.

  2. In the [Monitor Word Address] field, click to open the Input Address dialog box.

  3. Select the tag you want to use, and click [Ent] to input an address.
