Q. Where can I download RealPlayer?

Q. After installing RealPlayer, the computer takes longer to boot-up.
Q. RealPlayer always tries to connect to the Internet.
Q. How can I set RealPlayer to not load when Windows starts up?
Q. How do I stop the StartCenter icon from flashing or to not display the update dialog box while using RealPlayer?
A. After RealPlayer is installed, the above problems can occur because the application StartCenter (SmartStart for the G2 version) is resident. For solutions to the above 4 problems, please refer to the following "Setting RealPlayer to be Non-Resident".

Setting RealPlayer to be Non-Resident (RealPlayer7)
1. Run RealPlayer.
2. Select [Preferences] from the [Options] menu and click the [General] tab.
3. Click the [Settings] button in the [StartCenter] area.
4. Uncheck the [Enable StartCenter] check box.
5. Click [OK] in the [StartCenter] dialog box.
6. Click [OK] in the [Preferences] dialog box to save the updated settings.

Setting RealPlayer to be Non-Resident (RealPlayer G2)
1. Right-click the RealPlayer icon in the Windows right-corner task tray.
2. Select [Disable SmartStart] from the menu.


Q. Can I reduce the amount of PC resources RealPlayer utilizes?
A. RealPlayer can potentially use a large amount of your PC's system resources, depending on the type of Internet connection and type of file being played. Typically, the playing of video files utilizes a large amount of resources. To reduce this amount, please refer to the following "Reducing System Resource Usage".

Reducing System Resource Usage
1. Run RealPlayer.
2. Click on [Options] and select [Preferences].
3. Click the [Performance] tab.
4. Move the [Playback Performance] slide to the left.
5. Click [OK] to save the updated settings.


Q. How can I improve video playback picture quality?
A. If your PC display settings are set at 256 colors, the picture quality will be low. Please refer to the following "Setting the Screen to HighColor" for how to improve the picture quality.

Setting the Screen to HighColor
1. Open your PC's Control Panel (in the Start menu's Settings area).
2. Double-click on the [Display] icon.
3. Click on the [Settings] tab.
4. Click on the [Colors] pull-down menu and select [High Color (16-bit)].
5. Click the [OK] button.


Q. What should I do when the audio plays too fast or too slow?
A. Refer to the following "Troubleshooting Audio" section.

Troubleshooting Audio
1. Start RealPlayer.
2. Select [Preferences] in the [Options] menu.
3. Click the [Performance] tab.
4. Click the [Settings] button in the [Sound Card Compatibility] area.
5. Check the [Disable 16-Bit Sound] or the [Disable Custom Sampling Rate] check box to change the RealPlayer and sound card synchronization method. Finding the best combination for your PC may require a few tries.
6. Click [OK] in the [Sound Card Compatibility] dialog box.
7. Click [OK] in the [Preferences] dialog box to save the updated settings.
