Inserting the SSD Unit into the PL3000 Series

The major manufacture in touch-screen operator terminals, Pro-face released the SSD Unit as a new storage device for the panel computer, PL3000 Series on the 5th of March.

We developed this unit with our SSD vendor adopting our technique accumulated for vibration resistance and data storage that are always a problem with industrial computers.

An HDD (Hard Disk Drive) unit frequently used for computers is a storage device that has an access of reading or writing with a magnetic head over a magnetic disk rotating at high speed. In a FA environment, it's easily affected by vibration and operating temperature for it is restricted.
The SSD (Solid State Drive) Unit that has been released this time is called a silicon disk and has no rapidly moving part and head. Since it has an electrical access to flash memory, it's highly resistant to vibration and shock and has more resistance to temperature than the HDD unit. You can, therefore, use this product with no worry for installation to machine tools or devices that make vibration in a factory. Moreover, no motor to rotate a disk is required, so it's very quiet and power consumption can be reduced to one-third comparing to the case of the HDD unit. (comparing to the conventional product).

In the site that makes vibration and shock, only the Windows XP Embedded is installed in a compact flash card and OS that has a writing protection function is often used. But the customers who want to write data, want to use their properties as they are, or feel uneasy without knowledge of Embedded can use the applications created with Windows XP as they are.

• This product is superior in vibration resistance, shock resistance, and temperature resistance to an HDD unit and can be used with no worry in a rougher environment.
• With 16-GB capacity, the same OS and applications as in the usual PC's environment can be used.
• There are two kinds available; OS Pre-installed type (Windows XP Pro) and Non OS type (for saving data)
• The SLC type that possesses higher reliability has been adopted and power consumption can be reduced.
• The lifetime of writing can be checked with the SMART function that warns of a disk trouble in advance.
