European Standards -EN (CE) / North American Standards -UL, cUL (CSA) / EMC Directive / SEMI Guidelines (EMI, EMS) / Korean Standards-KCC
European Standards

- EN (European Norm)

Harmonizing with IEC standards, EN has added requirements for strict electrification measures for pan-European regions. For international trades in European countries and the ones between Europe and Japan/North America, products to be imported or exported should be already certified by EN. CE marking is mandatory for 12 types of industrial products of which safety is critically required. To affix CE marking, those industrial products should meet all relevant EU directives (corresponding to regulations in 18 countries).

North American Standards

- UL (Underwriters Laboratories Inc.)

UL is an independent product safety certification organization founded by an American underwriters’ association to develop standards and test procedures for product safety. Although obtaining UL certification is voluntary, most of electrical products are certified by UL in North America. To obtain the UL certification for an electrical product, main components to be built into the product should be UL-certified. There are 2 types of UL marks: a UL Listing mark and a UL Recognized Component mark for a component that UL finds it acceptable for use in a complete UL Listed product.

- CSA (Canadian Standards Association)

CSA is a nonprofit, nongovernmental standard-setting organization. Selling products which are not CSA-certified is banned in Canada. In accordance with Mutual Recognition Agreement concluded between UL and CSA, a UL Listing mark and UL Recognized Component mark are used also by CSA.

EMC Directive
- EMC Directive

EMC directive is an EC directive regarding electro-magnetic compatibility of equipment (EC directive No.89/336/EEC). Electro-magnetic compatibility is achieved primarily by addressing both electro-magnetic interference and electro-magnetic susceptibility issues

     EMC: Electro-Magnetic Compatibility
     EMI : Electro-Magnetic Interference
     EMS: Electro-Magnetic Susceptibility

SEMI Guidelines
- EMI

EN50081-2: Immunity against EMI on industrial applications
EN55011: Immunity against EMI on industrial, chemical and medical equipment
EN55014: Immunity against EMI on consumer electronics and electric tools
EN55022: Immunity against EMI on information processing equipment

- EMS

EN50082-2: Immunity against EMS on industrial applications
     EN61000-4-2: (Electrostatic discharge) Level 3
EN61000-4-3: (Radiated electromagnetic field strength) Level 3
     EN61000-4-4: (Transient/Burst Noise Tr/Th) Level 3

Korean Standards
- KCC Standards (Certification of Korea Communications Commission)

The KCC standards are the certification system that came into effect in 2008 to protect the domestic radio wave environment in Korea, by minimizing human and property damages caused by unnecessary generation of electromagnetic waves and communication failures and erroneous operation of equipment triggered by other equipment or external radio waves.

Along with the revision of the standards, HMI has been newly added as an applicable product to the standards from January 1, 2010.
